TC4; Rental Cars and Cell Phones Information
Hertz Rental Cars
- Hertz is offering a 40% discount on car class C (e.g., Toyota Yaris) and car class F (e.g., Diahatsu Terios)
- CDW is not included in the rate - Check with your credit card company to see if it is included when you use the card to pay for the rental
- If you pay for CDW, the deductible is $975
- Cost for additional driver(s) is $5 per person per day - Family members are included at no cost
- Rate information is enclosed
- On-line reservation instructions follow - Please note different procedures for those arriving via commercial aircraft vs. arriving via DC-8 or C-5
For participants arriving via commercial aircraft

- Go to http://www.costaricarentacar.net
- 'On-Line Reservations' box appears on right-hand side
- Choose pick up location - CAR RETURN INT.AIRPORT
- Enter arrival date and time
- Choose return location - CAR RETURN INT.AIRPORT
- Enter return date and time - use the same time as arrival / the Hertz office will manage the time to avoid additional hour charges

- Select car class - Class C Toyota Yaris or Class F Daihatsu Terios
- These are the only two car classes where a discount for NASA participants applies
- The full fare applies to all other car classes
- Click yes on 'Discount Coupon,' enter 'NASA,' and click 'Apply.' The discounted rate will show on the rental summary.
- If your credit card provides CDW coverage in Costa Rica, then click 'I decline CDW'
- Fill out the personal information, and include any special requests in 'Additional Information'
- Click 'Send' for a reservation.
- You will receive a confirmation soon
For participants arriving via military aircraft or the DC-8
- Follow same steps except
- When you choose pick-up location, select MAIN LOCATION PASEO COLON (in order to waive the 12% airport fee)
- All the rest remains the same
Avis Rental Cars
- Avis is offering a 20% discount on numerous car classes- CDW is included in the rate - Note that CDW deductibles are up to $1,000 in case of damages, and $2,000 in case of theft
- There is no cost for additional drivers
- There is a limit of three authorized drivers per car
- The rates are enclosed

Cell Phones:
- Cell-phone rentals are available through Hertz
- $2.50 per day
- $1.50 per minute (incoming/outgoing, domestic/ international)
- A 30% discount will be applied to the per-minute fee => $1.05 per minute

ESPO News:
NOVICE: ESPO is supporting the NOVICE instrument development mission out of Ellington Field TX during September '08.
ARCTAS: The ESPO led ARCTAS mission (Spring and Summer, 2008) has completed very successfully. The NASA DC-8, P-3 and B-200 flew a combined total of 55 sorties and 538 flight hours including the California Air Resource Board CARB study from Palmdale, CA and Ames Research Center.
ESPO is looking forward to supporting the DFRC based NASA Global Hawk development and related UAS missions in 2009.
