We are planning to set up and operate a local area network (LAN) to support computer communications among participants at the SUCCESS field deployment in Salina KS during April and May of 1996. The LAN will be ethernet based, using TCP/IP protocols, and will be connected to the Internet to provide wide area network (WAN) support. A unique Internet Protocol (IP) address and symbolic hostname will be assigned to each computer or other network-addressable device that is connected to the LAN and that supports the TCP/IP protocols. Computers connected to the LAN will be able to communicate with each other, and optionally with the outside world via the Internet. During the deployment, the LAN is expected to be the focus of announcements, quick-look data exchanges, data archiving, collection of data for mission planning, local email among participants, plus email and data transfers between Salina and other outside institutions.
