The DC-8, T-39, ER-2, and B757 flew a coordinated mission over Nebraska to e the exhaust of high and low sulfur fuel mixes. The B757 was using high sulfur fuel in one wing tank and low sulfur fuel in the other, and alternated the high and low sulfur fuels on each leg of a racetrack pattern while the DC-8 and T-39 took turns sampling its exhaust. DC-8 measurements were conducted 40 to 12 miles behind the 757 to measure chemistry and microphysics in the exhaust plumb and radiation from above and ow. The ER-2 observed contrails of the T-39, B757 and DC-8 from above. Measurements were coordinated with the NOAA-14 satellite overpass at 1941 UTC.
