The DC-8, T-39, ER-2, and B757 flew a coordinated mission near the CART site to sample the exhaust of high and low sulfur fuel mixes and short lived s. The B757 was using high sulfur fuel in one wing and low sulfur fuel in the , and alternated the high and low sulfur fuels on each leg of a racetrack pattern while the DC-8 and T-39 took turns sampling its exhaust. The DC-8 sampled the B757 exhaust as close as five miles. The T-39 sampled the B757 near field exhaust. The ER-2 flew an initial flight leg in the solar plane and then joined the racetrack pattern laid by B757, flying in the direction. Measurements were coordinated with the NOAA-14 satellite overpass at 2022 UTC. All aircraft observed clear skies.
