Hello SOLVE Folks, The ARC Earth Science Project Office (ESPO) will be providing internet connectivity and domain name service (DNS) for the SOLVE deployment site at Kiruna, Sweden. Soon we will build a UTP 10BASE-T (ethernet) LAN using cat V cable with RJ45 connectors. Our LAN will be connected to the internet via E1 circuits with connections in lab spaces and on the hangar floor, if needed. Hostname to IP address resolution will be provided by an authoritative primary name server, cloud1.arc.nasa.gov, at Ames Research Center and a authoritative secondary name server, cloud2.solve.espo.nasa.gov, on the SOLVE LAN in the Arena Arctica hangar at the Kiruna Flygplats. Everyone will be notified by e-mail about the information you will need to configure your equipment for the SOLVE LAN at Kiruna, Sweden (e.g. IP address, domain name, broadcast, gateway, and subnetmask etc.) All participants, connecting to the LAN, are responsible for providing, configuring, and maintaining ethernet hardware and software which will safely communicate on our LAN via TCP/IP protocols. To provide DNS I need the following information: For each IP addressable machine (computer, printer, instrument): 1) The name of the person using or responsible for the machine. 2) Platform affiliation (e.g. DC8, ER2, theory, etc.). 3) Instrument or Theory team name affiliation. 3) NASA Center, University or Company affiliation. 4) Hostname (the name by which your computer will be known). 5) Platform (eg. "MAC", "PC", "SUN", "SGI", etc. ). 6) Operating System (eg. "MACOS", "WIN98/NT", "UNIX", etc.). 7) Deployment dates for which the IP address will be needed. Please e-mail the above information as completely as possible by October 20,1999. My email and phone number are at the bottom of this email. Thanks very much for your cooperation.
