They are working on a plan for us. ~1718: Went through convection just north of Key West. 172451: D: DHP 280/91. 173242: F: DHP 290/092; G: DHP 296/102. 52,000 ft tops (hereafter 520 ft). 173535: Requesting F and G from ATC. Got F and are on the way. 173730: Picture of storm to our north. 173911: Flying under upwind anvil of fairly organized storm. Some mammatus under this anvil. 174206: Cloud to air discharge right in front of us. 174533: Another picture of impressive storm. 174655: H: DHP 295/112; I: DHP 285/098. 174820: Just scraped through pileus! Nothing showed up on the 2DC. 175207: Hit some anvil on the way to H. 175247: HVPS looks good. 175555: Passed H, on to I at 250 ft. 175712: Cindy has 2 g/m^3. 175739: Out of cirrus. 175853: Paul D. is doing very well. Mentioned earlier that he is getting homogeneous freezing. 180106: Climbing to 270 ft. 180320: Base looks to be way below us. 180433: Back in. Running I to H at 270 ft. Going to climb to 370 ft and return to L. 194339: Lidar is operating at NPOL. 194713: Think I lost a pin out of the mouthpiece for my headset. 194929: At M, at 370 ft, heading to L. 195126: NPOL says go to L, come back to M, spiral down to 200 ft. 195429: Headset repaired. ~1955: NPOL lidar off. ~1955: TDL accidentally was turned off. Not sure how long. 195737: Flows way down on CVI. We are in clear air trying to clear everything out. 200111: Still plugged up. CN counts still around zero. 200346: Picture Of Cb developing over Gulf. 201227: Key West weather: 110 at 10 kts, 6 miles visibility, 500 few, 12,000 sct, 20,000 sct, 25,000 sct, 30.09 altimeter. 201321: Exhaust port not clearing out. So, we are heading to M at 370 and will execute the spiral at M. 201649: TDL data do not look correct. Td > T by a lot. 202023: Starting spiral at 370 ft at M. Heading down to 200 ft at 750 ft/min. 202300: Charging signal in 2DC. 202337: Pitot nose looks plugged again. 203116: More charging signatures in the 2DC. 203725: We are RTB. Ended spiral at 250 ft. ATC wouldn't let us below that altitude. 204153: Pitot nose is working again. TDL looks better also. 204332: We are going to try to get a block between 100 ft and 120 ft to try to get some dust. 204833: Exhaust port for instruments opened. 210020: Dropping to 110 for more dust. 210341: At 110 ft trying for dust. 210845: Dropping to 100 ft for dust. 211839: Paul D's instrument cannot sample any more. 212418: Landing. 4.2 hours. Summary: 1. Eventually got to H and I. Legs at 250, 270, 290, 310, 330. Radar went down during 310 run. Lightning strike during 330 run. 2. Moved to L and M. Legs at 330, 350, 370, and 370. 3. Downward spiral at M from 370 to 250. ATC wouldn't let us below that. 4. Dropped to 120 to get dust. Then to 110, then to 100. Then, ATC dropped us to 1500 ft. Think we got dust. Nothing like yesterday, though. Instrument Issues: TDL was accidentally powered down for a while. Not sure how long it was powered down. Appeared as if the exhaust port for the TDL was plugged for a while. Exhaust port for the CVI, CN counter, etc., was plugged for quite a while after our first 370 run at L and M. Radar went down.
